Talks about increasing the number of US soldiers in Poland
Talks about increasing the number of US soldier...
Polish-American relations, increasing the presence of US troops in Poland and implementing decisions of the NATO Summit were the main topics of talks of Mariusz Blaszczak, Minister of National Defens with General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, direct adviser to the Secretary of Defense James Mattis and President Donald Trump. General Dunford is the most important officer in the US Armed Forces and came to Warsaw for the meeting of the NATO Military Committee.

During the meeting with General Dunford, the head of the Defense Ministry drew attention to the many years of intensely developed Polish-American relations in the field of defense. The cooperation between Poland and the United States took the form of a strategic partnership and is expressed by the participation of the troops of both countries in operations for global security, including in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The presence of the USA on the eastern flank of NATO is also growing - since 2017, US troops have been stationed in our country. The meeting with General Dunford was an opportunity to discuss the long-term commitment of the United States and deployment of more US troops to Poland. Minister Mariusz Błaszczak positively referred to the effects of the so-called European Deterrence Initiative (EDI). As part of it, the Atlantic Resolve operation is underway, part of which is the presence of the US Armored Brigade Combat Team in Poland.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, the interlocutors also discussed the decisions of the last NATO summits in Warsaw and Brussels, including confirmation of the need to adapt the alliance to new challenges. NATO forces are present on the eastern flank as part of the so-called enhanced Forward Presence eFP and tailored Forward Presence tFP. The Alliance has sent battalion battle groups to Poland and the Baltic States (the lead country of the battle group in Poland is the USA). NATO troops are also stationed in Romania and Bulgaria. In turn, the new NATO initiative is to strengthen the readiness state of alliance, the so-called 4x30 initiative, which assumes that from 2020 NATO members will maintain a high level of readiness of 30 mechanized battalions, 30 air squadrons and 30 combat ships, ready to operate in no more than 30 days.

Minister Mariusz Błaszczak and General Dunford stressed the importance of cooperation between all member states and the cohesion of the North Atlantic Alliance.
