The development of cooperation in the military and armaments areas was the main topic of talks between Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defense and Elisabetta Trenty, Italian Defense Minister, which took place on Monday in the Ministry of National Defense in Warsaw.

Minister Błaszczak, thanked the Italian Defense Minister for the cooperation of the Italian Armed Forces with the Polish Military Contingent EU SOPHIA stationed in Italy. The head of the Defense Ministry stressed that Poland, as an active and responsible ally, engages in activities that improve security, both in the eastern and southern neighborhoods. Poland is determined to ensure the ability of the EU and NATO communities to adequately respond to threats from all strategic directions.

Ministers during the meeting also discussed cooperation regarding projects implemented under the mechanism of Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO). They both agreed that the development of military bilateral cooperation should always serve to strengthen the most important capabilities of Europe which are indispensable for both: EU and NATO.





The main tasks of the PMC EU SOPHIA are aimed at limiting illegal smuggling of people and goods to Europe and supporting the Libyan naval security forces in training and implementing measures to reduce illegal immigration. Mandate tasks of the EU SOPHIA operations, the contingent carries out from the Sigonella NATO base, located in Sicily, 15 km west of Catania. PMC EU SOPHIA, is formed mostly by the Naval Aviation Brigade and counts 100 soldiers.
